An Audience with Reg Lancaster

Saturday, 11th June 2011 – Oast Theatre Tonbridge

Pretty much everyone who’s anyone in the amateur film making world has heard of our Reg, and his innumerable anecdotes and stories about the films that he’s made over the past 150 years. Approximately.

This is your opportunity to spend some time watching his outstanding collection of prize winning films from over the years, and I’m sure there will be his trademark stories flowing before and after each film!

In addition to an Annual festival, SERIAC also holds special events from time to time for the benefit of all movie makers in the region.

Events over the past couple of years, for example, have included superb ‘An audience with…’ presentations from Master film-makers – Willy Van De Linden and Michael Gough.

Here is a golden opportunity to see an absolutely fantastic variety of top award winning movies made over four decades by the President of the I.A.C., Reg Lancaster FACI.

You’ll see films to make you smile and laugh, films to make you think, films to bring a tear to your eye – all made with Reg’s inimitable style – and at the same time pick up invaluable pearls of wisdom on the art of movie making from a master of the craft.

ABOUT THE OVFM TOP 10 COMPETITION

top10

The OVFM’s main annual competition has been running since 1985 under its original moniker “The Knockout” until 2003 when it became the Top 10.

The concept is fairly straightforward – club members submit their films for scrutiny and critique by their peers (well, the other club members) then points are awarded for the various technical aspects – Titles, Visuals, Structure, Sound, Editing and General Appeal, all marked out of 10 points. After each qualifying round has taken place the top ten rated films (see what we did there?) then face off in the final – with any amendments made from the comments in the preliminary rounds – before the highest scoring film is finally revealed at the OVFM Oscars the following year.

The films can be on any subject, in any style, covering any genre and can range from one minute to twenty minutes! the only enforceable stipulation is that your films must NOT have won any prizes in other OVFM competitions in previous years eg: Kath Jones Cup, Mike Turner Plate or Vic Treen Trophy. Any comments or criticisms proffered are completely constructive so no feelings are hurt (as far as we know!) and one can usually expect expert opinion and advice in order to address any issues raised.

Members can find more details on the rules and guidelines along with a downloadable scoring form HERE.

And speaking of Top Tens, we are currently listing the OVFM members’ Top 10 favourite films, the results of which you can find HERE!

Saved his life with Magic!

I publish or layout books for authors and get involved in marketing the end product.

One project was a book “Surviving By Magic” by Fergus Anckorn, a resident in the Sevenoaks area and a POW of the Japanese in WW2.  He worked on the Thai-Burma railway.  He survived this grim ordeal, partly thanks to his skills as a conjuror.

One episode involved eggs and his escape from decapitation as a result.

I filmed this particular trick with Fergus telling the story at the same time.  It was filmed in his very small flat using a black cloth pinned to his wall.  Fortunately, my Panasonic camera has a slightly wider angle lens than the equivalent Sony FX so I was just able to keep him in focus, but it was tight.  Watch this and enjoy.
