OVFM CLUB MEETING TUESDAY APRIL 2nd 2019 – THE AGM

One of the more important and serious nights on the OVFM calendar, the 2019 AGM is the one night of the year where club members get to air their concerns, ask questions and share their ideas for future programmes, so please don’t let this opportunity pass you by if you have something to say.

Also at the AGM, we elect our Committee. Every year they work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure there are the club keep running, projects are conceived, outings and events are organised and all of the perks and treats you get to enjoy on a regular basis are taken care of.

Every seat on the Committee is temporarily vacated – including the position of Chairman – so anyone can who has been nominated or has decided to stand can find themselves as the newest member. While we appreciate everything they do for us, like anything an injection of fresh blood can make all the difference, which is why this opportunity is there for the taking.

Incumbent chair Jane Oliver is now notched up two years as the captain of HMS OVFM and has been at the forefront in encouraging club members to be be more productive. Meanwhile Vice-Chairman Sam Brown has announced his intention to step down after seven years on the committee and six years as Vice-Chairman, during which time Sam has not only contributed greatly to the running of the club but has also stepped up as host and MC to many a club meeting and public show. So, thank you sam for all your hard work.

Club President Reg Lancaster is being forced to vacate his seat on the committee as an ordinary member due to ill-health but will remain in his position as proud figurehead for OVFM, so our gratitude goes to Reg for his years of tireless service to the running of the club.

Ian Menage, who took over the mantle of Competitions Officer last year, has also decided to step so while we thank him for his efforts in that role, we find ourselves once again looking for someone to step up and fulfil this important position.

Most importantly we are in need of a new club secretary although it is not an understatement to suggest that Freddy Beard left a huge pair of shoes to fill for whoever decides to accept the role, but it is one that is vital we fill. As much as the current committee have been able to assume some of Freddy’s duties, this puts more pressure on them most of whom already have enough to do in serving the club.

Hopefully those who are interested will have put themselves forward to fill these positions or were nominated by others, via the forms sent out with the Viewfinder or available for download on this site

A reminder of the current committee as it stands is as follows:

Chairman – Jane Oliver

Vice Chairman – Sam Brown (standing down)

Treasurer – David Laker

Ordinary Members:

Reg Lancaster (Club President) (standing down)

Annabelle Lancaster

Ian Menage

Andy Watson

Trevor Rogers

Competitions Officer – Ian Menage (standing down)

Press Officer – Vacant

Secretary – Vacant

And remember it is not just the Committee who determine the future of the club and the projects that help us stay active creatively and socially – this is YOUR club so YOUR ideas and suggestions are equally valid and welcome. The club needs films to survive and we thrive on having great ideas to make those films, so please have a think about concepts and themes for future project evenings or other club events.

OVFM CLUB MEETING TUESDAY APRIL 17th 2018 – The AGM!

One of the more important and serious nights on the OVFM calendar, the 2018 AGM is the one night of the year where club members get to air their concerns, ask questions and share their ideas for future programmes, so please don’t let this opportunity pass you by if you have something to say.

While we appreciate everything they do for us, like anything an injection of fresh blood can make all the difference, which is why this opportunity is there for the taking.

Incumbent chair Jane Oliver has completed her first year as our guiding light and has been at the forefront in encouraging club members to be be more productive. Meanwhile Hugh Darrington, who took over the mantle of Competitions Officer last year, has decided that one year is enough for him so while we thank him for his efforts in that role, we find ourselves once again looking for someone to step up and fulfil this important position within the club.

We are also looking for a full time Press Officer which, like Competitions Officer, doesn’t have to be a Committee role making this open to anyone to fulfil. At the moment it is being handled by various people already with other commitments chipping in here and there, but really it is a role that requires a dedicated focus, so if you think you’d like to take up this position and help get the club notices, events and other stories into the local press, public forums and across social media and the Internet then please make your intention known at this meeting.

Hopefully those who are interested will have put themselves forward to fill these positions or were nominated by others, via the forms sent out with the Viewfinder or available for download on this site

OVFM COMMITTEE ELECTION RESULTS 2017

Following the 2017 AGM on Tuesday 4th of April, there have been some changes within OVFM, specifically on the committee and with the club’s figurehead.

As you know Simon Earwicker stepped down as Chairman after four years in the role while Brenda Wheatley vacated the role of Competitions Officer after 12 years, which called for a slight reshuffle on the committee and at the top of the club’s chain of command.

Luckily for us, there were some willing club members to step into the breach to make this transition to the new regime as painless as possible. First, Jane Oliver has been voted in to succeed Simon as the 22nd club Chairman, making history as the first female to lead OVFM in its 60 year existence.

Elsewhere, Trevor Rogers has joined the committee as an ordinary member to fill the space left by Brenda, and Hugh Darrington has volunteered to take over her duties as Competitions Officer on a one year trial basis.

To recap the Committee line-up:

Chairman – Jane Oliver

Vice Chairman – Sam Brown

Secretary – Freddy Beard

Treasurer – David Laker

Ordinary Members:

Reg Lancaster (Club President)

Annabelle Lancaster

Ian Menage

Andy Watson

Trevor Rogers

This marks a new era for OVFM so I hope that you will all join me in congratulating our new Chairman, Competition Officer and committee member and give them your full support going forward!

OVFM CLUB MEETING TUESDAY APRIL 4th 2017 – THE AGM

After the glitz and glamour of the 2017 OVFM Oscars it is time to get serious again with the annual AGM.

This is the one night of the year where club members get to air their grievances, their concerns, their fears or ask that all important question they’ve been a bit shy about asking. Once the minutes from last year’s meeting have been approved and the annual reports have been read, we turn the floor over to YOU, so please don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

Also at the AGM we elect our Committee.

We already know that incumbent chairman Simon Earwicker will be stepping down from the position after four years in the role and Brenda Wheatley will be stepping down as Competitions Officer after 12 years. We thank them both for their hard work and contributions to the running of OVFM.

The club is also looking for a full time Press Officer which doesn’t have to be a Committee role making this open to anyone to fulfil. If you think you’d like to take up this position and help get the club notices, events and other stories into the local press, pubic forums and across social media and the Internet then please make your intention known at this meeting or speak to a Committee member.

However this means a changing of the guard and hopefully someone will have put themselves forward to fill these positions. Nominations forms were sent out with the Viewfinder and were available for download on this site so hopefully this process is already in motion but if not the final deadline is THIS FRIDAY MARCH 31st!!

A reminder of the current committee as it stands is as follows:

Chairman – Simon Earwicker (standing down)

Vice Chairman – Sam Brown

Treasurer – David Laker

Secretary – Freddy Beard

Competitions Officer – Brenda Wheatley (standing down)

Ordinary Members:

Reg Lancaster (Club President)

Annabelle Lancaster

Ian Menage

Andy Watson

Jane Oliver

And it is not just the Committee who can suggest ideas – this is YOUR club so YOUR ideas and suggestions are equally valid and welcome. The club needs films to survive and we thrive on having great ideas to make those films, so please have a think about ideas and themes for future project evenings or other club events.

THE OVFM COMMITTEE ELECTIONS 2017

THE OVFM COMMITTEE ELECTIONS 2017

Every ship needs an engine to help drive it forward and for OVFM that would be the Committee – a select few who work diligently all year round to ensure the club has a purpose, a direction, and takes care of the administrative matters that keep OVFM alive. The Committee is also there to address any concerns members may have, be they personal matters or relating to the club itself.

Every club member no doubt has an opinion or idea as to how we could improve the club’s running, its fortunes, or has suggestions for projects, promotional ideas or other club related activities. The AGM is one way for people to put their ideas and opinions forward or, of course, committee members are always wiling to listen and put these proposals to the other committee members during the bi-monthly meetings for discussion.

At the most recent committee meeting two members announced their intentions to step down from their posts, those being Competitions officer Brenda Wheatly and OVFM Chairman Simon Earwicker. We are also in need of a Press Officer to help promote the club and its events to the local media and beyond. This doesn’t have to be a committee member so anyone is welcome to apply for this role.

Every year prior to the AGM a form is made available to club members – either with the Viewfinder or here on the website – with which the Committee members are voted in by YOU. ALL incumbent members are asked if they are willing to stand for re-election leaving every seat and position open – from chairman to treasurer to ordinary member – until the nominations and votes have been received.

Therefore this year’s AGM on April 4th will see the election of two new committee members in senior posts and possible ordinary members if anyone wishes to step up. To participate, simply fill in the form you received with the March edition of the Viewfinder or download it from HERE then find another club member to nominate you and get that nomination seconded by someone else. Submit your form to Freddy Beard by no later than Friday March 31st ahead of the AGM on the 4th where the final results will be revealed.

For the record the current Committee members who ARE standing for re-election are:

Sam Brown – Vice Chairman

Freddy Beard – Secretary

David Laker – Treasurer

Annabelle Lancaster – Ordinary Member

Reg Lancaster – Ordinary Member

Andy Watson – Ordinary Member

Ian Menage – Ordinary Member

Jane Oliver – Ordinary Member

Standing down and thus NOT seeking re-election are:

Simon Earwicker – Current Chairman

Brenda Wheatley – Competitions Officer

As you can see it is important that this year we do see a concerted interest from club members to step up and be counted, now that two vital roles are vacant. While we have a nominee for Chairman, further nominations or volunteers for a new Competitions Officer, as well as a Press Officer are very much welcomed.

Remember the Committee is not a self serving entity but a group of people striving to make OVFM a continued success for ALL of its members, which relies on a self-perpetuating source of energy to allow that to happen. So if YOU want to make a difference to the club then find someone to nominate you and have that seconded, or nominate and second someone else. It all helps.

If you have any queries or comments please reply to this post below or contact the committee and they’ll do their best to respond to them for you.

On behalf of the club we thank Simon and Brenda for their tireless efforts and contributions to the running of OVFM.

Thanks for reading and for your continued support of OVFM.

Mini Autumn Show Newsreel Request

help

If you recall earlier this year that Lady Annabelle of Lancaster requested footage from the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations that took place locally for the 2016 Newsreel to be featured as a part of the 2017 Spring Show.

newsreel

However the Legion of Doom have decided that a mini-Showreel dedicated to these events should be a part of the upcoming Autumn show on October 14th. Therefore could we ask anyone who has footage shot during the celebrations – along with anything related to the EU Referendum or the Battle of Somme Remembrance – IN ROUGHLY EDITED FORM ONLY to please contact either Annabelle,  Ian Menage or David Laker to arrange to have your clips included in the final Newsreel programme.

We are a little pressed for time so the next club meeting on Tuesday 30th August is the deadline for providing your footage in person.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Coaching Evenings – Your Opinions Please!!

Your Opinions Please!!

Coaching Evenings 2014

The five evenings have now completed and the numbers attending each ranged from 3 to 17. Most of those who came seemed to get something from the variety which was provided. Mike Shaw’s film music and sources presentation was particularly welcome.

The club owes a vote of thanks to all the stalwarts who contributed as speakers and demonstrators, without which the evenings wouldn’t be possible. Thanks also to all members for having supported the cost of the sessions through their subscriptions.

Your ideas for possible future coaching evenings will ensure that there are some!

Ian

Please use the comments facility below to leave your feedback on the evenings held so far – positive and negative – and what YOU want to see in future coaching evenings or let Ian or a member of the committee know directly.

Thank you!

The King is Dead….Long LiveThe King!!

OVFM has a new chairman and new look committee!

As you all should be aware by now, Cap’n Chris Coulson stepped down as Chairman of OVFM after three years in the position and ten years on the committee. Thus the AGM held on Tuesday April 16th 2013 was a pivotal one for the club as we saw the committee – aka the Legion Of Doom – receive its biggest shake up in quite some time.

Over the past few years the line-up of the committee has remained largely unchanged but with the sad passing of Vice-Chairman Mike Turner in September 2012, necessity brought about this first stage of change followed by Chris’s decision to stand down. As per the protocol of the election, every member of the committee, from top to bottom, was obliged to vacate their positions until the votes had been counted so no-one was guaranteed their seat until the votes were counted. With two nominees for the vacant key seats already accepted by incumbent committee members, a position was now available for ordinary member leaving the field open for anyone to put themselves forward for nomination.

With the winds of change now sweeping through the club the votes were counted and the new committee announced. Going forward, here are the people who make up the new OVFM committee:

Chairman – Simon Earwicker

Vice Chairman – Sam Brown

Treasurer – David Laker

Secretary – Freddy Beard

Competitions Officer – Brenda Wheatley

Press Officer – Annabelle Lancaster *

Ordinary Members:

Reg Lancaster

Ian Menage

Lee Relph

Andy Watson

* Annabelle has agreed to remain as press officer but only for a short time until a replacement can be found either within the current committee or if someone else should wish to take on the role.

Our congratulations go to Simon “Snapper” Earwicker as he becomes the latest person to steer the good ship OVFM onwards and upwards through whatever choppy seas await us. I’m sure he’ll do a good job in following in the rather large footsteps Chris has left behind and of course we offer our thanks to Chris for his leadership and contribution as chairman over the past three years.

Please give Simon and the committee your full support and remember, they are there to make sure the club continues to remain a successful and active concern for all of us. If you have any queries, ideas, suggestions or concerns about the club feel free to let any of the above know so they can raise it on your behalf at the committee meetings.

Thanks for reading.

OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday April 16th 2013 – The AGM

agm13

This week is the one time we get serious here at OVFM as we hold our annual AGM.

This is the even where the club members elected to fulfil the major positions of the club’s committee (aka the Legion of Doom) sit before us and conduct the session in which YOU are given the opportunity to make your voice heard.

To download the agenda in full for the meeting please click HERE.

The most important matter to be addressed this year is the election of the committee members which has been discussed at great length HERE. As you already know our incumbent Chairman Cap’n Chris Coulson is stepping down from this position after three years thus we will be electing in a new chairman. Our current vice chairman Simon “Snapper” Earwicker has agreed to put himself up for election for this spot while ordinary member Sam Brown is willing to fill the Vice Chairman spot.

This leaves us with a number of vacant ordinary member positions to be filled so club members who wish to have a greater say in how the club is run could get their chance – if the votes swing their way. Remember this is a democratic process so NONE of the current committee members are guaranteed to resume their places until the votes are counted; we could end up with a completely new look committee once the night is over.

This is an important and pivotal night for OVFM so your presence in very much requested this Tuesday evening and your input and opinions are equally as vital. See you then.
