OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday September 29th 2015

TT_15_R4

This week’s club meeting is the fourth round of the annual Top Ten Competition. For the results of the first three rounds please click HERE.

I realise that before the last round we expounded upon the belief of “quality over quantity” but as we only had ONE entry that is, I’m sure you’ll agree, pushing it a bit. Hopefully we will see an improvement on that number as we enter into the latter stage of the contest and with the summer holidays behind us, you good folk have had some time to put your footage together into a some sort of visual narrative.

The names drawn to submit and entry for this round are:

Barbara Darby

Mike Bishop

David Laker

Leo Staggs

Anna Littler

Walter McKenna

Tony Keable

Chris Coulson

Barbara Walker

As ever if you can’t make your designated round be sure to let Brenda know ahead of time or you have a film ready early, please bring it along as chances are it will be welcomed for screening time permitting.

And if you are bringing a film this week then PLEASE reply to this post in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, format (DVD, Blu-ray, Mini DV) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and helping things run smoothly so if you could do us this courtesy it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and good luck to everyone who enters a film!

  1. This will probably shock most of you but for the first time in 2 1/2 years I actually have a film! 😮

    DVD, 16:9, 2m 35s 🙂

And Bob Wyeth has sent word he’ll bring a film too.

  2. That means we have double the number of entries that we had in round 3. Hurray!
We could still do with more.

  3. Brenda’s prayers were answered as we had five entires last night, which is also a record for this year’s competition. Ironically not one of the entires came from the club members chosen for this round.

Anyway, we kicked off with “Pirates” from Sam “Choo Choo” Brown, which showed the award winning routine from a teen musical troupe.

Reg “Bomber” Lancaster brought us “Backlight Revisited”, a once in a lifetime look at a lunar eclipse.

Bob Wyeth went “Cruising Down to The River” in celebration of his wife’s 80th birthday. Maybe for her 81st he’ll take his missus with him!

Up next was the highlight of the evening as my film “Une Journee dans la vie de Kieran Jones” rocked the house! 😛 A silent comedy this was for my nephew’s French homework project which was shot and edited in just one day!

Finally John Greengrass took us on a tour of “Syria”, shot in 2006 before all the recent troubles to present us with a sobering look at the cost of war.

So, the gauntlet has been laid down for the remaining club members to rally up and get their films in for the final round at the end of October.

  4. Sorry I couldn’t be with you but it sounds like it was a very full evening.

Thanks for your excellent write up Lee.

Well done to everyone who brought films along and good luck in the competition.
