We’ve now reached the last of the four qualifying rounds of the annual Top 10 Competition meaning this is the final opportunity club members have to enter their film ahead of the final on January 10th 2017.

And if you are bringing a film this week then PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, format (DVD, Blu-ray) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and helping things run smoothly so if you could do us this courtesy it would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile Pat Palmer informs me she has a 10 minute film for Tuesday.
The qualifying rounds of the 2016 Top ten competition spluttered to a bathetic conclusion this week with just two entries submitted, making a grand total of just 13 films entered this year! I suppose, looking on the bright side, this means only three entrants will miss out on a spot in the final as opposed to eight or nine.
Anyway first up was one of the most economic films I’ve seen in OVFM , “A Trip Around Our Garden” from Colin “Colin” Jones. Just as the title suggests, there were no fancy sets involved, scripts to be written, actors to be cast (aside from Mrs. Colin), or difficult shots to be set up, Colin just took a wander through his garden with a camera.
The moral of this tale? Making films doesn’t have to be the sort of blood, sweat and tears production some of us go for, you can produce something from what is right under your nose with minimum fuss. Unless of course a bare bones film like this beats a blood sweat and tears film like mine, in which case they can burn in hell. But I digress… 😛
And the final film in this year’s competition was “An Historic Route” from Pat Palmer, which took a look at the changes in Orpington across the years via a popular biking route. Aided by maps, archive photos and a plucky cyclist to ride the route, Pat took us back in time to show us how certain local landmarks have remained while introducing us to what stood in their place once upon a long ago.
With time to fill, we were treated to a bonus film from Hugh Darrington which took a look at the Roman baths that are located right here in Orpington – at the end of my road in fact. Pointless trivia – I walked past that site almost every day for 12 years on my to work and yet only last night did I learn that the small bunker type construction on the other side of the road was a genuine Roman artefact! >.< So, that is the Top Ten qualifying rounds now completed. The results will be up soon and then it is the final which will be held on January 10th 2017! Good luck to all the entrants!
