OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday May 14th 2013

topten2013R1

It’s that time of year which fills some of members with dread and nightmares while others relish the chance to show off their latest masterpiece. I’m talking of course about the annual OVFM Top Ten competition.

Over five rounds to be held periodically over the remainder of the year we shall see the fruits of the labours of our club members and the films they think stand the best chance of receiving the highest praise from their peers en route to be crowned the Top Ten winner at next year’s Oscars.

Unlike other meetings revolving around film screenings, this time the films are under scrutiny of your fellow club members who will score your films on a technical and personal grades so the stakes are high as is the pressure to deliver. But don’t fret, all critiques given are constructive and aimed to help you improve for future reference and for the eventuality your film makes it to the final in January 2014.

The first round takes place this week and the following members have been picked at random to present their films for this session:

Craig Robinson

Jane Oliver

Harold & Maisie Trill

Alan Whippy

Gwen Whippy

Mike & Jo Coad

Derek Allen

Susan Ward

Anna Littler

Ann Perrin

Mike Shaw

Please reply to this post if you will be providing a film at this week’s session, along with the running time, picture ratio (16:9 or 4:3) and media format (DVD, Mini DV, etc). This is a tremendous help in planning out the time allotment of the meeting.

If you don’t then have a film ready please let Brenda Wheatley know so that she can try to find someone else to fill the gap in the evening. If your film is ready early please feel free to bring it along to any Top Ten night and if there is time we will show it.

If you miss your given round you can bring your film along to a later one, but it will only be shown after those drawn for that round, if there is time.

Good luck to everyone who enters a film!

If your film is ready early please bring it along on a top ten night and if there is time we will show it.

If you miss your given round you can bring your film along to a later one, but it will only be shown after those drawn for that round, if there is time.

OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday March 5th 2013 – OVFM OSCARS!!

ovfmoscars13

It’s time to put on make up

It’s time to dress up right

It’s time to raise the curtain on OVFM Oscars night

Once again the biggest event in the OVFM calendar is upon us as we hold our very own Oscars! Over the past twelve months we’ve all (well some of us have) been hard at work making films and improving our skills and this is the night where that hard work is recognised and rewarded.

The many trophies and awards contested include the Ian Dunbar Cup, the Orpington trophy, the Jubilee Shield and the Mike Turner Plate and judging by the quality of the films entered these will all be tightly contested categories. We shall also be announcing the winner of the top 10 for 2012, one of the few awards based on club member votes.

Last year Simon “Snapper” Earwicker swept the board with four prizes. Can he do it again this year or will we crown a new King or Queen of OVFM?

As always the Oscar night is meant to be a fun time for the club as much as it is an evening of celebration so members are encouraged to either put on their gladrags or be a bit creative and indulge in a bit of fancy dress. Who can forget last year when our beloved vice chairman Mike Turner dressed up as a banana to help promote Anna Littler’s Blitz & Bananas?

So, let’s hope no-one trips up when going up to receive their award or we don’t have to endure any embarrassing skits or songs about seeing certain parts of the female body as those pretenders in Hollywood did last week. This is the OVFM Oscars – about a classy as you can get (for Orpington anyway…)!!

Hope to see you all then!

OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday January 8th 2013

topten12FIN

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you’ve all got over the indulgences of the Christmas period and are feeling fit for another fun packed, educational and productive film making year in 2013.

But first we have some unfinished business to take care of in the form of our Top Ten competition and our first club meeting of the year is the Top Ten final. By now, those of you whose films have scored the highest marks in the individual rounds would have received an e-mail from our competition organiser Brenda Wheatley and have made any necessary adjustments and improvements to your films based on the feedback and comments from the previous rounds.

Now it is judgement time and the ten highest scoring films get a second airing for the final ranking, and the results of this round and the winning film will be revealed at this year’s Oscars on March 5th!

Also this meeting is the closing date for  entries for the Annual Competition so please make sure you don’t miss out and get your films, entry forms and entry fee to Brenda.

So good luck to all the finalists and we look forward to seeing all of, you on Tuesday for this important date in our annual calendar!

Top Ten Competiton Special Announcement!

Special announcement about the Top Ten Competition!!

Breaking news from the headquarters of the Legion of Doom.

Due to the number of entrants for this year’s Top Ten competition being slightly down in comparison to previous years, it has been decided that club members will be given an extra chance to submit a film with the addition of a bonus round!

The deadline is the club meeting on Tuesday 4th December 2012, so anyone who was unable to submit a film in their allotted round or didn’t get round to making one, this is your chance to rectify this and make your mark on this year’s contest.

Members are encouraged to make the most of the next four weeks to get their films ready for viewing. With plenty of festive occasions this time of year brings, the scope for providing an interesting document  to share with the rest of the club is wider than usual. Or if you have an unfinished project gathering dust, here’s hoping for a last minute burst of inspiration for you to complete it.

So, please take advantage of this extra opportunity and we look forward to seeing your films on the December 4th.

OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday October 23rd 2012

And so the final of the initial qualifying rounds of this year’s competition is upon us. We’ve seen some interesting films thus far so hopefully this session wouldn’t disappoint either.

If last year is any indicator, some of you will be leaving it to the last minute before making your film which would suggest a healthy turn out of entries to close this opening stage of the contest.

The remaining club members invited to provide their films are:

Andy & Marian Watson

Jim Morton Robertson

Barbara Walker

Mike Bishop

Andy Webb

Basil Doody

Sylvia Snipp

Ray Hewitt

Derek Allen

Alan Smith

Malcolm Goodwin

Susan Ward

Len Lawrence

If you don’t then have a film ready please let Brenda Wheatley but I’m sure that those who missed their spot earlier in the contest will be able to provide ample substitution.

Good luck to everyone who enters a film!
