OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday March 13th 2012 – OVFM OSCARS!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls and Miscellaneous – dust off your glad rags as it is once again time for the annual OVFM Oscars!!

Those lowlifes in Hollywood had the audacity to pinch the idea of awarding films with prizes and statuettes some 50 plus years before OVFM came up with it but that hasn’t stopped the club from showing them how it should be done!

On Tuesday March 13th at the Barnard Rooms, St Augustine’s Petts Wood the crème de la crème of the work created by the talented members of OVFM will be rewarded in a gala evening of epic proportions that will razzle you, dazzle you and – if you play your cards right – bejazzle you!

Last year young Reg “Reg” Lancaster walked away with four prizes (but had to give them back until he was officially awarded them) for his epic drama “Finnish Foibles” followed by the debut outing by someone unknown lump of gristle called Lee Relph, whose contemplative paean to the survivors of the great authors cull of 1922 “Writers Block” bagged three awards. So who will reign supreme this year? Can Reg Lancaster score big two years in a row? Who will take home the Mike Turner Plate? Did anyone successfully put a film to music in an award wining style? Which nine films were not voted winner of the annual Top Ten competition? Do you care? If you do then join your affable (or is it flammable? I forget which) host Chris “Cats” Coulson as he guides us through the murky waters of the 2012 OVFM OSCARS!!

Blitz & Bananas – The Premiere!!

THE PREMIERE!!!

 

As you may recall during the recent features on Anna Littler’s film “Blitz & Bananas”, we brought you news that the premiere was being organised for early 2012. Well, we can now confirm that the premiere will take place on Sunday April 1st at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley. And no, this is not an April Fool’s joke!

Don’t just take our word for it – check out this advertisement in the current Bromley Arts Council Events Schedule for 2012:

The film starts at 2.30pm, however we are also organising a Wartime Experience! (Details below.) So guests can come from 1.30 pm to join in the 1940s fun!  Come in vintage clothing or your party dress!

TICKETS  – Buy and Sell!
Tickets are available from the Churchill theatre but please note they charge a booking fee per ticket, plus transaction fee IF you book on their website or by phone, but there are no fees if you go to the booking office.


However, we can also sell as many tickets as we want – without booking fees! Our plan is to give small batches of tickets to individuals to sell to their family and friends etc.

So if you would be willing to take 10 or 20 etc. to try to sell (or any number large or small!), that would be really useful and it will save your friends paying the extra fees! As the seats are numbered, it’s to your advantage to buy early to get good seats!

Let me know your thoughts or requirements by email and we’ll make arrangements.  You don’t need to pay for them upfront – we will keep a record and payment can be made later. We’ll provide an info sheet to ticket sellers so that they have all the info needed.

Also I know that some of you have spent many days helping and/or have large families involved, so please do not feel embarrassed to email me if you would prefer a free ticket.

 

TICKET DEALS

Tickets are: Adults £10.  Child (U16) £5.

Family tickets: 2 adults & 2 children (£26)

Group deal – buy 10 tickets and the 11th is free.

 

We plan to have vintage cars, sets, costumes and props with us and hopefully some surprises – to make the afternoon an educational wartime experience for the young – or a trip down memory lane for the young at heart! 

*STOP PRESS* – Due to overwhelming demand for tickets, there will be a second screening for the film to start at 5:30pm! More news to follow soon!

OVFM Autumn Show 2011

OVFM Autumn Show 2011

 

When the members of OVFM work so hard at producing films it seems only fair that they should get the best showing possible. At club meetings their work is projected onto a large screen, but when we put on a show at an outside venue we’re also able to attract a much larger audience.

We have always held a Spring event but thanks to the number of films available this year we are now able to include an Autumn event to our social calendar.

This year’s Autumn Show will take place on FRIDAY 28th OCTOBER at 7.30 pm

Frome Five Minute Festival

Hi All,
As always, it was a most enjoyable event with an excellent turnout. There were 39 films entered and as is Frome’s policy, all 39 were shown. This was down on last year’s total of 47 so we got out before midnight this time.

Quite a number of natural history and wildlife films but surprisingly few comedies. We will keep you in suspense until the next meeting as to how well or not OVFM did but it was great to meet up with Robin and Brenda Hazelton again and to find out that since moving from Orpington and starting up what is now Tiverton Camcorder Club, that they are doing so well. The club is very active in the area and has 25 members, one of whom won the top prize at the Frome 5 Minute Festival as well as recently winning the Penny Cup and the Vision on Festival, both regional competitions with the same film.

The buffet was fantastic as always and I’m sure helps to swell audience numbers..They charge just £2 admission and all the food and drink is free. Can’t be bad! They even provide tea or coffee on arrival.

Frome are putting on their first ever public show at a theatre in the town in May and that is also free to attend.

We finally got home about 2.45am after a most enjoyable evening. At least the roads were clear!
