OVFM CLUB MEETING – TUESDAY August 2nd 2016

Yes folks the Top Ten 2016 competition is finally here!

Our annual Clash of the Camcorders is open to everyone in OVFM to submit a film, no longer than 20 minutes on any subject, style or genre, which will be judged and graded by their peers. The ten films that have accrued the highest scores by the end of the five individual rounds will be entered into the final in January 2017 and the winner will be announced at the Oscars in March.

Here are the club members who have been selected at random to participate in this opening round:

John Alford

Hugh Darrington

Mike Graham

Andy & Marian Watson

Patrick Campbell

Jo Coad

Reg Lancaster

Walter McKenna,

Alan Smith

Bob Wyeth

Jenny Tucker

As ever if you can’t make your designated round be sure to let either Brenda know ahead of time or reply to this post below, or you have a film ready early, please bring it along as chances are it will be welcomed for screening time permitting.

And if you are bringing a film this week then PLEASE reply to this post in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, format (DVD, Blu-ray) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and helping things run smoothly so if you could do us this courtesy it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and good luck to everyone who enters a film!

  1. First off, thanks to Ian Menage for stepping into the MC role at the last minute in the absence of our regular hosts (missing persons posters will be going up soon) and a personal thanks to all in attendance for patiently sitting through my garbled address about the upcoming Dexter film shoot. Public speaking really isn’t my forte as I disastrously demonstrated, even with a mic to amplify my voice!

Anyway, onto the main part of the evening and despite the lack of replies to the this post informing us of any films being entered, we did in fact have four films to kick off this year’s Top 10 competition.

We kicked off with an animated piece from Hugh Darrington entitled “Heaven Or Hell”, in which three recently deceased people arrive at the Pearly Gates and are asked to plead their case to St. Peter as to where they end up.

Bob Wyeth shared with us his “Welsh Transport Experience” in which he drove about Wales in giant leek! Actually that’s not true – it was a tram ride followed by a train ride up into the hills, taking in the impressive vistas and panoramas the Welsh countryside have to offer.

Jim Morten-Robertson and the Kemsing Mafia brought us a tale of “Obsession”, in which Jim embroils in a war of wits against a bluebottle that has been tormenting him day and night. Disclaimer – no humans were harmed in the making of this film!

Finally we were taken to the “Dawlish Air Show” courtesy of Jane Oliver, who treated us to a display of aerial acrobatics courtesy of the Red Arrows among others. Disclaimer – no Bluebottles were harmed in the making of this film!

That’s the gauntlet thrown down for the opening round, the members drawn for round two in September have a lot to live up to.
