OVFM Club Meeting August 19th 2014

topten14_R3

And so we come to round three of the annual Top Ten competition aka the “Barbara Darby Hands Off That’s Mine” award!

In both Round One and Round Two we received just THREE entries each so we are still looking for an improvement on that front although the standard of the films has been high thus far! You can find the results of those rounds HERE!

As ever you asked to bring in your best film to be judged by your peers in OVFM and the ten films that receives the highest votes over the course of the five rounds that will take place between now and November (see this post for the full list of dates).

The members who have been drafted to provide a film for this opening round are as follows:

Tony Faller

Bob Vine

Jenny Tucker

Roger & Brenda Wheatley

Tony Keable

Nellie Caseley

Freddy Beard

Reg Lancaster

Cherie Hamlet-Smith

Chris Coulson

As ever if you can’t make your designated round be sure to either reply to this post below saying so or let Brenda or reply to this post ahead of time – conversely if you DO have a film ready early, please bring it along as chances are it will be welcomed for screening time permitting.

And if you are bringing a film this week then can you PLEASE reply to this post in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, format (DVD, Mini DV) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and if you could accommodate us on this it is greatly appreciated.

Good luck to everyone who enters a film.

  1. New members who have joined since the list was drawn up for Top Ten are welcome to bring along a film to be included in any round of the Top Ten competition.

  2. Hi, I have not been able to get time off work so won’t be able to get to the meeting which is disappointing, but I have a film ready which I will drop off to Freddy today. It will be a DVD with a menu; 16:9, at 5mins 41 secs.

    1. Thanks Bob! Look forward to seeing it.

I won’t question what type of job you might be doing that requires you to work nights though… 😉 😛

      1. He he ! Don’t work nights my friend; just don’t have a certain time I can leave work; one day it can be 5pm the next 8.30pm etc etc then you add on the commute from Aldgate in London and sometimes I can stroll in around 9pm ! Not great but better to have a job than not – so not complaining. Mentioned to Freddy that if it isn’t too late I will try and slide in unnoticed during proceedings … She has my film so it can still be shown hopefully.

  3. Finally the tide has turned as we had a mighty SIX entries for this round! Whoo! 😛

First up was “Round The Horn” from David Laker which documented his boat trip around Cape Horn, with a distinct lack of Julian & Sandy and Rambling Syd Rumpo to entertain us.

Bob Wyeth took us to the “Croxy” next which is in fact a family run cinema club in Croxhill.

It was back to back Bob’s on this evening as Bob Vine delivered us a slice of futuristic drama in “Census”, an impressive SFX heavy short film that set the bar for high end production values for our humble little club.

Lightening the mood a little was “Carmen’s Pylon” from John Bunce which needs to be seen to be believed, followed by Ian Menage’s “Olympic Winner” recording the triumphant return home for local medal winner Lizzy Yarnold.

Finally Richard Pugh took us on a “Day Out At Beamish”, affectionately known as the “Living Museum Of The North”. Basically it’s a place apparently still stuck in the 1800’s aka The North! 😛

The competition seems to be hotting up at last so thanks to everyone who entered a film.

Hopefully round four will be just as eventful! 🙂
