OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday July 8th 2014

topten14_R2

This week’s meeting sees us entering the second round of the annual Top Ten competition aka the “Barbara Darby Hands Off That’s Mine” award!

In Round One we received just THREE entries so if anything one objective for this round is to see if we can beat that! You can find the results of that round HERE!

As ever you asked to bring in your best film to be judged by your peers in OVFM and the ten films that receives the highest votes over the course of the five rounds that will take place between now and November (see this post for the full list of dates).

The members who have been drafted to provide a film for this opening round are as follows:

Mike Shaw

Richard & Jess Pugh

Sylvia Snipp

Malcolm Goodwin

Mike Bishop

Anna Littler

Pat Palmer

Basil Doody

Brian Pfeiffer

John Alford

As ever if you can’t make your designated round be sure to either reply to this post below saying so or let Brenda know ahead of time – conversely if you DO have a film ready early, please bring it along as chances are it will be welcomed for screening time permitting.

And if you are bringing a film this week then PLEASE reply to this post in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, format (DVD, Mini DV) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and if you could accommodate us on this it is greatly appreciated.

Good luck to everyone who enters a film.

  1. I have another film available ready to show now on the 8th July.

This is called “I was just thinking”.
It runs for 2 mins 21 seconds
16.9 And is in Mpeg2/VOB file format which
is compatable with the club Nikkai A99HR DVD player using the S Video output

I note that although Mpeg4 is the best format
to use this is only compatable with the very latest devices .
    Best Wishes Tony K

    1. Tony, I am a little confused, When you indicate you ‘have another film available…’ Does this mean you expect to bring more than one film on the night? If so you could please clarify which one is for the competition.

      Andy

  2. I’m working on something, which hopefully will be ready by next Tuesday. However, next Tuesday is a birthday day, and it may be other plans have been made for me, in which case, I may not even be showing myself let alone a movie! We shall see…

  3. Mike Coad tells me he has a film for tomorrow and hopefully Bob Vine’s one may be ready.
Richard Pugh has a film ready but he is on holiday so we will have to wait until the next round to see that.

  4. Hi Brenda,

With just hours to go (as usual) I’ve completed my Top Ten Entry. It is called ‘The Hamilton Landscapes’ and runs for 10-1/2 minutes. It is on Mini DV and is in 16:9 aspect ratio.

I’m afraid we can only stay for the first half of the evening as we have to pick someone up from Gatwick Airport at 10.15 so I would appreciate if the film could be shown in the first half, please.

    See you tonight.

    1. Thanks Mike for the warning that it is MiniDV format. No problem to show it in first half

  5. I am just burning a DVD of my film now, so it should be ready for this evening as well. it is 7 minutes 23 seconds long, though may seem a lot longer when watched … 🙁

    Mike

  6. Well, after all we had just three entries for this second round so we’ve broken even thus far.

First up was “Hamilton Landscape” by Mike & Jo Coad, which took us on a tour around Painshill Park in Surrey.

Another location film next from club newcomer and Top Ten neophyte Tony Keable, with whom we went on an “Arctic Adventure”.

The final film was something completely different from Mike “I Was Clement Freud’s Double” Shaw. Entitled “Illusions” Mike brought us a series of optical illusion to baffle and befuddle us.

With the summer (allegedly) now here let’s hope that the activities of club members during this period will see a healthier entry count for the next round.
