OVFM CLUB MEETING TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH

DIAMOND

It’s been a few months since first announced this Film To A Theme topic giving you all plenty of time to get your thinking caps and produce something to fit the theme of “Diamond”, partially created to tie in with the club’s 60th anniversary, but not limited to this as a subject for your films.

This week’s meeting is when you finally get to share you hard work and creativity with the rest of the club. Remember, this is not a competition evening so these films won’t be judged but if you want feedback or constructive criticism, we will happily oblige, time permitting of course.

As usual we ask a little cooperation from everyone bringing a film to the meeting to PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, media format (DVD, Blu-ray, USB/Memory stick), file format if using the latter (MP4, MKV, AVI, etc.) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and helping things run smoothly so if you could do us this courtesy it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for heading and we look forward to seeing your latest gems on Tuesday!

  1. Hi I’m bringing a film…it will probably be about 10 minutes long…hopefully a bit shorter on the Diamond theme. I will probably bring usb stick and not sure what format at the moment. Maybe mp4? still confused about those things a bit. Sorry Maria

  2. Maria, MP4 should be good. I look forward to seeing it.

Lee, I’ll bring a 3 minute film, MP4, on usb stick, or small portable hard drive. Jane

  3. Well, we didn’t get 60 films to mark the club 60th (aka Diamond) anniversary but we did have six films to enjoy on the topic of “Diamond”.

First up was “Our 60 years” a tribute to the 60 years of wedded bliss enjoyed by Barbara Darby and her husband Ron to the strains of “Turn, Turn, Turn” by The Byrds. Who knew Barbara was a closet rock’n’roller? 😉 Bob Wyeth presented a cheeky short recalling his art lessons during his school days, his favourite subject for painting and the “Diamonds” his teacher preferred him to paint.

Next up was another ambitious curiosity from newcomer Maria Alexander in “The Malteser Falcon”, a spoof noir involving the search for a precious diamond. It’s nice to see a fresh new voice in the club, bringing new ideas to the screen and adding something unique to the club dynamic. , This was viewed by two of the cast members present, both keen to do more acting, so a good result all around for the club!

This was followed by two short entries from our chair Jane Oliver. “A Sky Full Of Diamonds” was fun visual interpretation of the Beatles classic “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” as performed by William Shatner! her second film was “Diamond 9” a look at the famous Red Arrows flying squad.

Closing the evening was a film from the archives “The Witness”, a collaborative effort by the women of the club (most of who are still members today) about a diamond robbery at a jewellers shop that was witnessed by a young woman who can’t speak English!

As ever, a varied response to a theme so we thank those of you who made a film. Keep yours eye peeled for a new Film to a Theme project coming soon!

  4. I was rather saddened at the lack of enthusiasm regarding the amount of Diamond films brought in to be shown. Where all our semi-professional film makers who usually out shine any of my efforts. Disappointed rawbob

  5. Bob, It has been a very busy time for some of our members who have been working to tight and demanding deadlines to make the Diamond Anniversary Show happen. I am surprised that some of them came along with so much work still to be completed. Some of those would certainly have put in films in the past. One or w others members are particularly poorly at the moment and we do miss their work. Others were just not available to be there on the night, so whilst I can understand your disappointment, I want to thank you and all the others who found time to put something together for the evening.

We were fortunate to b treated to a longer ‘gem’ of a film, by one of our most recent members. Did you guess the plot?

I am sure that we will see much more of her work, or her work in collaboration with others, in the future. Some folk still need a helping hand, and ideas are not easy to come by for those who have not been blessed with creative minds. By working together more in support of one another I am sure the number of films made will be on the increase. We enjoy our hobby and I am sure will do our best to make films for as long as we are able.

  6. Ok Jane I’ll let them off. I’m sure they have all been working very hard to get things organised. I particularly likrd your Diamoned nine film, i wasn’t too keen on the black & white film it was too disjointed to me. However it takes alsorts.
